Hearing Anthony Bourdain, Eric Ripert, José Andrés and April Bloomfield talk about their favourite kitchen tools won’t make you a better chef. But that doesn’t mean you can’t learn from them.

Andrés puts the situation in terms we can relate to. Tools consist of two parts: “the software and the hardware… the hardware is simple.” Anyone can buy a fancy knife, but that doesn’t mean they can use it to create an amazing meal. Just like anyone can buy a fancy camera, but that doesn’t mean they’ll take great photographs. The software tools are still required, which in this case includes passion, commitment and hard work.

I’m surprised that none of them mentioned my favourite kitchen tool: the phone. Great for ordering takeout, or making reservations at all of their restaurants. [Cool Hunting]
