Sure the Apricorn Aegis looks like a garage door opener. But you wouldn’t get it for its looks, you’d get it for its 256-bit military-grade encryption.
The Aegis holds 16GB of data and connects via a USB 2.0 plug. Its tamper-evident aluminium casing is waterproof, the interior electronics defended by a super tough epoxy compound that can’t be removed without breaking them. It features full-disk AES 256-bit CBC (Cipher-Block Chained) hardware encryption that’s accessible via a seven to fifteen digit numeric PIN. The Aegis is compatible with Windows, Macs, and Linux machines and doesn’t need to install drivers to work with any of them.
It also allows for an admin and user passwords to be set, granting different levels of access to the data on the disk. It also includes a nuke button that resets all user and admin passwords, wipes the data, and resets the encryption. The 16GB retails for $US125 at Apricorn with 4GB and 8GB versions also available.
