Altec Lansing’s Live 5000 Streams Audio From Virtually Any Wi-Fi Device

Altec Lansing isn’t just content to make a wireless AirPlay speaker for OS X and iOS users, so they opted for a different strategy: a universal Wi-Fi speaker controlled via a proprietary app on iOS, Android, Windows and OS X devices.

The Live 5000 has two 3-inch speakers, two silk dome tweeters and a 4-inch sub with a passive radiator, all powered by a tri-amp system. The Gentile convex curve of the speaker was implemented for purposes of audio clarity, preventing sound waves from cancelling each other out. Those looking for a versatile wireless speaker can expect to see the Altec Lansing Live 5000 in mid-2012 for $US500. [Altec Lansing]
