Weather Underground: For The Weather Nerd In All Of Us

Whenever a conversation hits a lull, it’s usually the topic of the weather that starts it back up again. Weather affects us all. And let’s face it, the pre-installed Yahoo weather app on the iPhone is pretty much worthless. Instead of trusting the weather that’s based on what the local airport is reporting, Weather Underground reports from the nearest weather station.

What’s it do?

Weather Underground has been the go-to weather site for years. Instead of giving you a generalized weather report for a wide area, the site displays conditions for an area based on the closest weather station. Choose from over 22,000 weather stations for incredibly accurate weather information. The app also includes the National Weather Radio which is especially important during times of extreme conditions.

Why do we like it?

I’ll admit that I’m a huge weather nerd. I want to know the weather of the individual districts in San Francisco. But the app is more than just a way for me to find out if the Mission District is sunny while Ocean Beach is foggy. If you’re travelling by car this holiday season, it’s important to know what the weather will be like along your route. The more accurate the information, they better prepared you can be. Not only is the app a great addition to the iPhone, the Android version should be available soon. Like tomorrow soon.
