Bose has created a mini masterpiece in the Soundlink Mobile Speaker. It combines a stunning, intelligent design with Bose’s traditional excellence in audio. By using Bluetooth as the wireless standard instead of Wi-Fi, Bose has not only created a speaker a speaker that can truly be taken anywhere, but one that plays back music from a huge range of devices.
While most portable speakers today are somewhat limited by the inclusion of an iPod dock, the Bluetooth standard lets the Soundlink Mobile Speaker connect wirelessly to not just Apple devices, but Android smartphones and tablets, BlackBerry phones, laptops and other computers, or any other Bluetooth enabled device.
Simple Setup
Simply press and hold the Bluetooth button on the top of the speaker, and then choose the Soundlink option from the Bluetooth devices on your phone or PC. The devices are now paired, and will automatically connect again every time the speaker is turned on and the phone is within the 10 metre range. It can also remember up to six different devices, making it perfect for the whole extended family.
Because Bose passionately created the Soundlink as a portable music solution for everyone, they had to create innovative technologies to deliver a full range of sound – from deep bass to detailed high notes – without using heavy subwoofers or large ports. Bose created specialised passive radiators, which is how they can get the deep bass notes from a speaker just 5cm thick that weighs less than 1.5kg.
The careful design includes either a dark grey nylon cover — or a premium trim with dark brown leather cover. These fold out to become the speaker’s stand, making it truly portable, without needing any bulky accessories. A 3.5mm auxiliary port on the back also allows for music playback without a Bluetooth connection.
Summer Lovin’
The Soundlnk Mobile Speaker is powered by a Lithium-ion battery, which gives up to eight hours worth of playback, depending on how loud you’re playing your music. Getting the same battery life from your smartphone may be a bit more challenging. Once the Soundlink’s battery has run out, the included charger will charge it up in about three hours.
