Hey, what was the last update you posted to Facebook? That’s nice, everyone loves a good cat video. Admiral James Stavridis of NATO just posted his intention to end the war in Libya. Possibly the first war to be ended via social media and definitely the first one to show up next to a Farmville request on your wall.
The Admiral posted the following message on Facebook,
An extraordinary 24 hours in Libya. As SACEUR, I will be recommending conclusion of this mission to the North Atlantic Council of NATO in a few hours. A good day for NATO. A great day for the people of Libya.
There hasn’t been any official announcement from NATO about the end of the war, but chances are they’ll Like Adm. Stavridis’ post and issue an official statement.
Social media played an important role in the conflict. In fact, Libyan rebels used Twitter to ask NATO to call in airstrikes on enemy targets. From citizen journalism, to announcing a recommendation to end a war, social media is becoming far more important to the world at large than pictures of your friend’s kid.
