Apple Puzzled By iPhone 4S Battery-Sucking Issues

My iPhone 4S is an voracious energy-sucking vampire and its internal battery is its victim. I figured Apple was hard at work trying to solve the issue. According to the Guardian they are, but it looks like Apple’s not sure why it’s happening.

The Guardian reports that Apple has been contacting iPhone 4S owners about their new phone’s battery-draining ways. Apple’s iPhone spec page states that while the iPhone 4S has less standby time than the iPhone 4 — 200 hours compared to 300 hours — the 3G talk time should actually be an hour longer with the 4S hitting eight hours.

A reader contacted the Guardian about their battery woes and their attempts to fix the issue on their own. The owner was then reportedly contacted by Apple:

I then got a call from a senior [Apple] engineer who said he had read my post and was ‘reaching out’ to users for data and admitted this was an issue (and that they aren’t close to finding a fix!) and asked lots of questions about my usage and then asked if he could install the file below and that he would call back the day after to retrieve the info. I extracted the file from my Mac after a sync and emailed it to him. He was incredibly helpful and apologetic in the typical Apple way!

Hopefully they’ll fix the issue soon and I can use my iPhone for an entire day without having to hassle people for their electrical outlet locations.
