QR codes have fallen out of fashion and sunk to an all-time low. But Wikipedia and its QRpedia service may change all that.
Wikipedia has rolled out a QR code system that’ll extract the language information from your phone and pull up a mobile Wikipedia entry in your native language. If you are an Englishman visiting Germany, your QR code scan will retrieve the linked Wikipedia entry in English. If you are from Spain, the entry would be in Spanish.
Museums are going to love this system as it provides a multicultural experience for their guests at no extra cost. The museum only has to provide a single QR code on their signage and the rest of the processing is handled by Wikipedia. Several museums like The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and the Derby Museum in England are successfully using this system.
