Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House, Legoised

The Robie House is at the pinnacle of American architecture. One of the first houses to be turned into a national landmark, Lego has released a replica kit of Frank Lloyd Wright’s 101-year-old masterpiece.

Built in 1910, the Robie House could have been built yesterday and still be seen as an innovative architectural achievement. Built for Frederic Robie, a bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer, the house resides in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighbourhood. According to Galinsky, the way each level of the house gradually recedes from the street allows for the home to have big, open windows while still allowing the interior to maintain a sense of privacy (which was something requested by Robie).

Now the house will be built from a different, but familiar, type of bricks. Curbed says the set contains almost 2300 pieces and is on sale starting today for $US200. [MocoLoco, Curbed, Galinsky]
