The Earth And The Moon From 11 Million Kilometres Away

Back in 1977, Voyager 1 — still flying off the Solar system — took a look at Earth for a last goodbye. After leaving on July 20, 1975, she was already 11.7 million kilometres from her home. This is what she saw.

Beautiful Earth and the moon, together for the first time in the sky as entire objects. The photo was taken through three colour filters, red, green and blue, and then processed at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory into this beautiful image of our little water gem and her silver sister. [NASA]
