Magnetism Has Never Been This Mesmerising

Kim Pimmel is no stranger to time-lapse photography. In his latest video, the versatile San Francisco filmmaker pits ferrofluid and food colouring in a pulsating race across an expanse of soap suds.

Pimmel set up the shot by placing a magnet in the centre of a dish filled with normal soap bubbles and some exotic ferrofluid at the edge. Using a Nikon D90, macro lenses and slick time lapse techniques, he captured the ferrofluid as it was pulled towards the magnet and the food colouring as it spread due to capillary action.
