The LoJacks and Clubs of the world would like you to think they have you covered should someone make off with your vehicle. But more security never hurts. So Intel is developing an app that’ll let you know if your car’s in trouble.
Intel’s approach is to connect your smartphone to your car’s security system. If a car thief comes along, the system will start streaming video via Wi-Fi to a cloud server when it detects him trying to break in. It’ll then alert your phone, and you can even store the video to view later. Perhaps in court as evidence against your scoundrel.
One hang up is Wi-Fi signals becoming an issue, but this is still a proof-of-concept app. No word on when it’ll be released, but sign me up. [Technology Review via DVICE]
