Facebook Adds The Ticker Because One News Feed Isn’t Enough

Does Facebook ever feel a little too quiet for your liking? Feel like there aren’t enough bits of info streaming at you in real time? Facebook understands. That’s why they’re starting to roll out their latest feature: the Ticker.

The blog All Facebook says the Ticker will appear concurrently with the main feed, with the intention of delivering every status update, like, tag and comment in realtime as they arrive. The Main Feed, meanwhile, will still be for the top posts (which is determined by whatever strange algorithm Facebook is using these days).

And maybe it’s just me, but something about this just seems silly and unnecesary. I get that social media is all about informing the masses about the minutae of their friends’ lives, but surely there has to be a better way than placing a feed next to a feed, right? [All Facebook]
