10 Year Old Girl Identifies Android And Apple Gaming Security Bug

Working under the name of CyFi, our 10-year-old friend showed off her discovery at the DefCon hacking conference, where she told of how boredom at the slow-moving phone games lead her to hacking, and identifying the security hole.

After growing bored of the farming games she’d been playing on her phone, she found that advancing the phone’s clock while disabling the Wi-Fi connection meant she could make her crops go faster. While CyFi didn’t exploit the game and plant malicious code, others could use the trick for evil gain on both Apple and Android devices. Now that CyFi has brought the hole to app developers attention though, I’m sure it won’t be long before it’s closed off. [BBC]
