Hugo Chavez Is Using Twitter To Run Venezuela

You know those jokes about how Twitter’s only good for telling people what flavour coffee you order? Hugo Chavez respectfully disagrees. He’s been using Twitter to govern Venezuela while he’s holed up in Cuba.

Chavez is in Cuba recovering from surgery to remove a cancerous tumour. But he’s taken to Twitter to keep in touch with his countrymen, including his Cabinet:

Chavez greeted Cabinet ministers and touted a public housing construction program. He said he had approved the equivalent of more than $US25 million for a new trash-collection company in Caracas, $US51 million for a state government and $US37 million for the organisation Frente Francisco de Miranda, which promotes efforts to transform Venezuela into a socialist state.

At least he’s not holding legislative votes via Facebook polls. [@chavezcandanga, AP via TheNextWeb]
