Originally built as a 5-story bloc by the ruling Communist party, this complex has undergone certain, shall we say, “renovations” over the years. And by “renovations” I mean wholesale reconstruction.
If a family needs extra space, they build up and out – adding new floors, walls, and roofs as needed. If someone new moves to the bloc, they only need to fence of a section of open yard to stake their claim and begin building their dream shanty. And thanks to an utter lack of construction permits and oversights, pesky details like exterior doors and windows are more of a suggestion than a rule.
