The "Barefoot Bandit" Pleads Guilty

Colton Harris-Moore, the 20-year-old /”Barefoot Bandit” who managed to steal airplanes and elude capture for two years in the great American Northwest (and eventually the Bahamas), has plead guilty to seven federal charges.

Beyond the federal charges, which could result in more than 5-years of jail time, Harris-Moore also agreed to forfeit any profit he might make from book or movie deals, of which there will inevitably be plenty. A movie deal, which the government now owns courtesy the plea deal, could net millions—all of which will now be used to pay the $US1.4 million owed for restitution.

All told, if a pending state-level gun charge sticks the 20-year-old shoe-eschewing bandit could serve more than 15 years in federal and state penitentiaries for a laundry list of crimes, including “bank burglary; interstate transportation of an aircraft; interstate and foreign transportation of a stolen firearm; being a fugitive in possession of a firearm; piloting an aircraft without a valid airman’s certificate; interstate transportation of a stolen vessel; and interstate transportation of a stolen aircraft..” reports Mike Carter of the Seattle Times.
