Portable OLED Lamp Lights The Way For Japan Earthquake Victims

Toshiba is lending a helping hand to its fellow citizens by handing out 100 portable OLED lamps to earthquake ravaged parts of the country.

The OLED lamp is powered by four solar-powered rechargeable AAA batteries and can last up to 20 hours at 10 per cent brightness. That’s about as bright as as a mobile phone display. At full strength, the light will last for two hours. With solar-rechargeable batteries and a life of up to 20 hours, it’s the perfect disaster light.

Don’t go looking for these OLEDs at your local survival store. Toshiba has no plans to sell them to the public. The lamps were made specifically for the relief effort in Japan. [Nikkei via Crunchgear]
