One Guy Who Really Misses His Stolen Guitar Launches Full-Scale Online Campaign To Get It Back

Many of us have been victims of theft at one point or another, but one Vancouver-area guy was so bummed out about his stolen musical gear – especially a 1953 Gibson Les Paul guitar he had for 43 years – he’s launched an all-out internet campaign to get it back.

The man, who simply goes Maurice, took a multi-headed attack strategy here. He not only set up a personal page, but also put a post up on Craigslist, did an interview with Canadian radio station CBC, and started a page on Facebook, which has over 2500 followers. Why so much effort for musical gear? Well beyond the fact that over $US50,000 worth of equipment was stolen, the Maurice had spent customising and modifying his Les Paul guitar meant it had a lot of personal value to him. He also says it means the guitar has little collector value.

From his Craigslist page:

Have some decency and redeem some karma. Bring my guitar back. You’ve fucked my studio up and stolen a life-time collection of my shit. You stole my guitar rig, which was MY sound that I’ve spent years achieving.

You haven’t ripped off a money making business. You’ve ripped off my life and my spirit immeasurably by taking away the tools of the pursuit of my passion. I’ve worked extremely hard for my whole life to earn my right to do so, and you took it all away in an hour or two. You’ve also ripped off my son, now, and in the future. I don’t have the money to replace the gear, so it’s just gone.

Just give it back – NO QUESTIONS ASKED. PLEASE

Damn. Internet, let’s help this guy get his stuff back. [Craigslist and Facebook via Maria Popova]
