Patent troll Lodsys tried to shake down small devs, claiming they hadn’t licensed in-app purchases. Mama bear Apple came to their defence, saying they’d licensed in-app buys for everyone, so eff off. Now, Lodsys sayeth: Nope! Still suing!
Lodsys released a bloggy legal threat saying the following:
We stand firm and restate our previous position that it is the 3rd party Developers that are responsible for the infringement of Lodsys’ patents and they are responsible for securing the rights for their applications. Developers relying on Apple’s letter do so to their own detriment and are strongly urged to review Apple’s own developer agreements to determine the true extent of Apple’s responsibilities to them.
Firm, baby, firm. The kind of firmness you need to muster when you’re going up against Apple and a fleet of developers. How firm are they? Rock hard. Lodsys says they’ll give $US1000 to any dev they wrongfully sue. How nice of them! Or, maybe, they could just take Apple’s kind advice and screw off. [MacRumors]
