Apple Comes To Aid Of Developers In Legal Fight Against Lodsys

When patent troll Lodsys went after iOS app developers for their use of in-app purchases, Apple quickly got involved, telling the company to step down. Now that Lodsys is refusing to back off, Apple is getting hands-on in this legal battle.

According to Foss Patents, Apple has filed a motion to intervene in the case, and precedence indicates that the motion will be granted. It also makes sense that Apple would want to get involved here, because their app ecosystem is what gives them a huge advantage over competitors, and scaring developers away is something they’re trying to avoid (just look at them relaxing their content subscription rules). Lodsys now has a real fight up ahead of them. [Foss Patents via TUAW]
