How A 75-Year-Old Woman Killed The Internet In Two Countries

She didn’t mean anything by it. But while a 75-year-old woman set out to collect scrap metal in the village of Ksani last week, by the time she got home she’d cut off internet service to both Georgia and Armenia.

How’d the unnamed pensioner do it? When she came across a line of fibre optic cable, she decided it looked valuable enough to steal. When she cut it, she killed internet service to thousands of people in the two neighbouring countries for hours.

She could face up to three years in prison for damaging property, but given her age they may let her off easy. In the meantime, remember: we’re all just a scrap metal hoarder away from having all our precious lolcats stripped away in an instant. [AFP via Today]
