News of the tracking bug in Apple’s iPhone and iPads broke only six days ago, but already Apple’s been hit with a lawsuit by two customers, with the possibility of it being elevated to class action status.
An iPhone user from Florida and an iPad owner from New York both filed a lawsuit on April 22 in Florida – just two days after everyone learnt their iDevices had been tracking their every move since June last year. The two men’s lawyer, Aaron Mayer, made the obvious point that “if you are a federal marshal, you have to have a warrant to do this kind of thing, and Apple is doing it without one”.
Currently, the two customers are asking for refunds along with damages, but are also seeking other people to join their lawsuit. They could have quite a case on their hands, with several countries’ regulators already jumping at the chance to investigate. So far, France, Germany, Italy and South Korea have all started preliminary investigations. [Bloomberg]
