The problem with online music stores like iTunes and BogPond is that they tend to feature a lot of American and Australian music, but not so much of the international variety. A new Australian made site called Cartell Download is designed exclusively for delivering world music to an Australian audience.
Designed, developed and built entireley in Australia and with the support of the French Embassy in Australia, the small independent record label is doing its part to try and share world music within Australia. According to the press release, 25% of the music available isn’t available to purchase – lat alone download – anywhere else in the country.
There are currently around 5000 tracks available, all encoded at 320kbps and without any DRM. If you’ve got a passion for Edith Piaf (and you should), it’s worth checking out.
