Amazing Muhammad Ali Sculpture Made With Punching Bags

This sculpture of The Greatest was made with 1300 punching bags. Each speed bag was treated as a pixel and when put all together, formed the face and classic snarl of Muhammad Ali.

The rest of the 6.7m high installation uses 10km of stainless steel cable, 1134kg of aluminium piping and took three years to complete.

It was made by Michael Kalish and will be on view at Nokia Plaza in LA Live in March. [Wired]

You can only see Ali’s face from one vantage point. Other perspectives show a bunch of steel and punching bags.

Yeah, it’s crazy.
