That massive data centre Apple’s spent the last few years building in North Carolina? As suspected, it’s there to support iTunes, the company confirmed today. That’s a whole lot of storage to be used for anything other than a cloud-based iTunes.
The space will also be used to handle MobileMe – another cloud initiative that could well become free soon – and Apple’s corporate systems. The billion-dollar facility is supposed to open “any day now”, which doesn’t mean much in terms of when you’ll be able to stream your iTunes library.
