Rumour: BlackBerry Torch 2 May Actually Be Pretty Great

The BlackBerry Torch was a sizeable disappointment, both for us and for RIM. But if the rumoured specs that Boy Genius Report has unearthed hold up, it looks as though Torch 2 might actually live up to its predecessor’s hype.

While the styling looks largely unchanged – exception being the new silver matte finish – it’s the specs that have finally caught up. Specifically, a 1.2GHz processor, as opposed to the Torch’s sputtering 600MHz CPU. Torch 2 will also rock a much improved 640×480 capacitive display instead of the current model’s 480×360. The full spec rundown, per BGR:

1.2GHz processor
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
Tri-band HSPA 14.4Mbps
3.2-inch VGA 640 x 480 capacitive display
8GB built-in memory
512MB RAM
Bluetooth 2.1
GPS
NFC
5-megapixel camera with flash
Magnetometer
Accelerometer
Proximity sensor
1300 mAh battery
BlackBerry OS 6.1
OpenGL ES
14.6mm thin

Now that’s a smartphone that can hang with the big dogs. Hopefully by the time it’s rumoured to come out – late this year – it won’t have gotten lapped again. [BGR]
