A Bench With A View

Public benches are great. You get to sit back, take it easy, and survey sights and sounds that might escape you otherwise. Also great: spiral staircases, privacy and watching things from above. These elevated benches give you ALL THAT.

The benches, designed by Israeli Itay Ohaly, are floated halfway up streetlight poles, suspended and accessed by spiral staircases. How often do you get to climb a spiral staircase? Not nearly enough, I’d imagine!

Of course, there are some people who would probably think that instead of offering privacy, sitting atop a street light would make one the subject of pretty much everyone’s scrutiny, but surely there are those for whom that’s an appealing prospect too. So elevated benches, I say, are a great idea all around. [Designboom]
