Adelaide University's giving both away. Well, not exactly giving. You still have to earn the degree, and you'll pay for the Pad in Uni fees, obviously.
On Saturday, Adelaide University announced that all students enrolled in the first year of an undergraduate Science program at the University for 2011 will receive a free Apple iPad.
Not so much a free Apple iPad to play Angry Birds HD on — although it's a fair guess that a modicum of that will happen — but an iPad for science studies. In a statement, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Professor Bob Hill stated that "Our teaching material will be more accessible, more relevant and more frequently updated, providing the flexible learning environment that students are looking for."
Before you all rush to enrol at Adelaide for O-Week only, the release does note that "the iPad will remain the property of the Faculty of Sciences until 31 March 2011. This is the cut-off date for students to decide whether or not they want to continue with their studies. After that date, if the student continues to study Science, the ownership of the iPad transfers to the student. Students who discontinue their science studies prior to 31 March 2011 will need to return the iPad."
