Turn A Disposable Camera Lens Into A Mobile Phone Macro Lens

Recently we showed how easily you can take apart a DVD drive and use one of the lenses inside to take awesome macro pictures. This build uses a disposable camera for parts and a wire brace for easy reuse.

If you haven't watched our video of macro close-ups taken with a DVD lens, you really should visit our previous DIY guide and check it out to get an idea of just how awesome this little hack can be.

Instructables user RVogel took the basic tape-the-lens-in-place design to the next level and decreased the cost by using a disposable camera lens and incorporating a wire brace so you can easily attach, detach and position the lens. His build is simple but does require more effort than simply using painters' tape to secure it it like we did. You'll need wire cutters, shrink wrap tubing, wire and of course a disposable camera — he suggests stopping by your local one-hour photo lab and seeing if you can score a used camera body with lens for free.
