Napster's iPhone App Breaks Cover Despite Licensing Fees Concerns

Only a year ago we heard that Napster wasn't keen on launching phones apps, simply because the licensing fees were too expensive. They seemingly got over that small issue, as you can now download their "free" iPhone app.

I say free, but while it's free to download from the iTunes App Store, you must be a paid-up Napster member, which comes in at $US10 a month. Songs, albums and playlists are playable offline (just like with the European-friendly Spotify), and recommendations and automixes are also supported.

It's only available to US residents at the moment, but Napster told Wired UK that they "are in negotiations with the labels and collection societies for a UK app". [iTunes via MusicAlly]
