We've featured a number of DIY air conditioner projects before, but this particular model is perfect for smokers and those living in polluted areas. Not only will it cool down a room, but it will filter out the smell of smoke.
The science isn't all that different from a lot of other DIY air conditioning units; all you need is two buckets, a pump and a fan. The fan pumps air into the larger bucket, while the pump moves cold water from the small one into the big one, causing a heat exchange. The creator, currently living in wildfire-consumed Moscow, noticed that this rig also seems to filter the air, getting rid of the smell of smoke and ash. While you may not be dealing with wildfires now, if you smoke cigarettes (or have a roommate that does) or live in a particularly smoky area of town, this particular hack could come in pretty handy.
