Victorians Create 74 New Apps For App My State Competition

title=Have you ever wondered which bin you should put your rubbish into? If so, the winning app in the Victorian “App my State” competition might be able to help you out.

Which Bin, developed by Jason Smale for the competition, is an iPhone app that scans the barcode of any product and then tells you whether or not the packaging from that product is recyclable in Victoria.

Jason took home the grand prize of $35,000, which isn’t bad for a handy little app. At the moment, it doesn’t seem to be in the iTunes Store, and it would be good to see it work outside of Victoria as well.

Outside of the WhichBin app, there were 17 iPhone apps, four Android apps and a host of web apps, as well as 96 app ideas that may or may not see the light of day.

Here’s hoping we see full releases of these apps in the near future.
