Last January, Netflix agreed to delay the rental of new release Warner Bros films by 28 days in exchange for more streaming properties. Now, Fox and Universal have signed similar agreements. What do we get out of the deal? Buffy!
While Netflix subscribers will need to wait 28 days before renting Avatar (the first major Fox property to be affected by this agreement), we will get streaming access for Lie to Me, Bones, 24, King of the Hill, Prison Break, Arrested Development and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Universal's new deal will delay movies starting with It's Complicated, but in exchange, subscribers can stream "premium domestic films" like Gosford Park and Billy Elliott and "library films" including The Pianist, Being John Malkovich and Do the Right Thing.
Trading new content for more streaming options is worth it in my book, assuming that Netflix isn't delaying every new release by a month just to get the one-time handful of media that we just copy and pasted here from the press release. [Netflix/Netflix]
