HTC Desire Arrives Early, Available Today

HTC’s hottest new Android handset, the HTC Desire, is hitting Telstra stores almost a week ahead of schedule “to meet strong customer interest”. So if you’ve been hankering, you can go grab one today. For those eager to wait out the Telstra exclusive period, you’ll be waiting even longer than you first thought. The exclusive now extends into October.

The smartphone can be ordered today online here, or from one of three [T] Life stores (George St, Sydney; Bourke St, Melbourne; and Hay St Mall, Perth). Wider availability will roll out to Telstra stores and dealers as they receive deliveries through the rest of the week. Telstra says most stores are expected to have stock before the long weekend.

Outright purchase is $779, or on a number of Telstra plan options.

Originally the exclusive arrangement was planned for three months, which would have seen other networks getting the phone around July-August. With today’s announcement of an exclusive extension to six months, Telstra has a serious jump on the market for what is undoubtedly the best Android handset yet.

If the Desire was in your sights, will you take the plunge with Telstra? Will the exclusive change your phone upgrade plans?
