After its latest firmware update, available right this instant, Seagate's set top FreeAgent Theater+ HD media player will deliver Netflix streaming, YouTube, vTuner and Mediafly content. Right, just like some other boxes out there today, but there's a caveat.
Here's an unsanctioned by Gizmodo hint: Arr!
What makes this particular box a bit different than the rest, like an offering from Roku for example, is that a Roku box doesn't stream videos from a hard drive or home network, and Seagate's does. That's an important distinction, because it means for about $US90 or so you can play all the pirated video you can eat, then switch over to Netflix streaming when you get tired of seeing your bootlegged, uncut copy of Iron Man 2 for the umpteenth time.
The update is available for free as part of an automated firmware update at Seagate.com, and will be pre-installed on all future Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ HD units sold in stores.
