Telstra To Begin LTE Trials In May

HSPA, the clock is ticking. Telstra is set to launch Long Term Evolution (LTE) network trials in May as part of an assessment of its potential as a ‘next generation evolution’ of the Next G network. Don’t expect to buy it soon, just enjoy the idea packets of LTE data will be whizzing by within the next two months.

The trial is set to be a three to six month feasibility and capability assessment, in partnership with multiple network partners — Ericsson, Nokia Siemens, and Huawei. Telstra suggests the trial will cover both urban and rural environments.

Right now its important to remember we may end up a little behind the curve on LTE, with the delay in the release of old analogue TV spectrum potentially slowing the availability of LTE bandwidth. With this trial announced, we might have to start digging into some more details on some best case scenarios for when we can expect some tasty next gen uber wireless.
