How Ubisoft’s New DRM Works Down Under

Kotaku readers will no doubt be aware that Ubisoft is introducing new DRM that requires PC gamers to be connected to the internet at all times while playing. And with Australia’s lacklustre broadband connections, that could mean plenty of frustration for anyone who’s connection tends to drop out…

Shay over at Kotaku spoke to Ubisoft to ask how it would effect Aussies with average internet connections. Apparently they tested the system in Australia and were satisfied with the results – the system requires a maximum 50kbit/s to work.

While most PC gamers are surely hoping for the DRM to fail miserably, it’s important to remember that pirating a game to get around painful DRM isn’t likely to persuade a company to stop using DRM…
