Regular viewers of The Daily Show will understand the deep wells of entertainment that can come from 24-hour news channels. That’s why the ABC’s announcement today that they’re launching a digital 24-hour news channel for Australia is so exciting. Also, they’re going to give us news all day every day.
The new channel will launch on the ABC’s current HD channel, which is underused and disappointing anyway. We’re still waiting for clarification on whether or not the channel will be broadcast in HD or SD, and details on when the channel will actually launch is still to come.
But no matter when it launches, it is good to see the public broadcaster making moves to provide an even broader range of content using the digital TV infrastructure. After all, more content = more better, right?
