Get Free Facebook SMS Message Through Telstra

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that most people who read Giz regularly have a phone that’s capable of accessing Facebook through an app or web-based portal. But if you don’t, or if you’re trying to convince a dumbphone enthusiast relative of the merits of Facebook on mobile, you can now tell them about Telstra’s new Facebook SMS service.
Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive “free SMS notifications whenever friends update Facebook, including wall posts, comments, invites and messages.” You can also reply to the update directly via SMS, which is charged at standard SMS rates for Telstra customers.

If you’re on Telstra and want to set the service up, all you have to do is text “fb” to 019832665.

The Telstra Exchange site also hints that the SMS service will be coming to another social media service soon, which is almost definitely going to be Twitter.

Anyone planning on using this? Or does your iPhone/Android/Winmo/Blackberry/Other Facebook app do the job well enough for you?
