Bad Robot Limited Edition Figurine

Posted by Brian Lam at 10:58 AM on July 24, 2008

Anyone who's watched to the end of an episode of Lost knows the Bad Robot mascot. You know the little bastard who taunts you with his eyes, saying, "I know exactly how the rest of Lost unfolds, but you're just going to have to wait for it piece by piece, you poor slobs." To commemorate your slow, painful wait, JJ Abrams had these limited edition figurines made in a batch of 500. They're giving away 3 of them at Comic-con this week, where they'll be showing off a pilot of their new show, Fringe. What's cool is that they prototyped these figures in house on the same 3D printer they designed the Cloverfield monster and the new Star Trek movie's phasers on.

Maybe it was a miscalculation, or perhaps it is Disney trying to capitalise on the success of the film, but the Ultimate Wall-E remote controlled robot is now available for pre-order at US$250--about US$60 more than originally expected. Not a big deal, though--this toy is so feature-packed, it is almost like having the real thing. [Disney]

WowWee White Tiger Cub Robot Is Unboxed, Unleashed

Posted by John Mahoney at 12:30 AM on July 23, 2008

WowWee, makers of fine programmable robotic toys, is stepping back a bit with the "Alive" series of animatronic beasts sporting realistic skeletons that move according to how much attention they're given. You can't load custom Java code onto this White Tiger Cub though, so if that's your thing, stick with the RoboSapiens or, perhaps, an equally cuddly Pleo, which has its own upcoming SDK. The cub does have plenty of movements in its repertoire though, and it's kind of creepy to watch.

Little girls in Japan will get their chance today to act out their fantasies of being American corporate tools, thanks to Bandai's new mobile communicator "Smart Berry" toy, which kind of looks like a Mylo done up in pastel colours. The Smart Berry includes a touchscreen LCD panel measuring roughly 2 inches by 1.4 inches, a slide- out keyboard, and Wi-Fi capabilities for email, chat and online games.
