Remember when Sony said that “all” of its 2011 Android phones would get an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich? It looks like that was a promise with caveats, as it’s admitted that the Xperia PLAY will be stuck on Gingerbread.
On paper the Xperia Play seems like a good idea. An Android phone with a slide out gaming pad. Then it was released and everyone yawned. Today’s OnLive announcement could turn those yawns into Woohoos.
The Xperia Play, Sony Ericsson’s first PlayStation-branded phone, hasn’t exactly set the world on fire. Mostly because, for a PlayStation Phone, there aren’t many PlayStation games on it.
It seems like an age since we last heard about the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, but the manufacturer has today confirmed that the Playstation Phone will be hitting Optus and Telstra stores next week on June 8.
Let this be a lesson to all of you – you can’t believe everything you read on the internet. Vodafone NZ has tried to drum up excitement for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play by claiming on Twitter that the entire shipment of phones was stolen. Turns out it was nothing more than a poorly thought out marketing stunt.
Now listen, I don’t normally praise ads. They’re meant to sell us shit, and there’s nothing really noble about that. But. But. Kristen Schaal’s new promos for Sony Ericsson are one of the greatest things I’ve ever witnessed. Boob stab.
