Sony Ericsson X10 and X10 Mini owners have been long suffering using the crappy old 1.6 versions of Android, but Vodafone tweeted this morning that they are planning to roll out an update to 2.1 Eclair late in December. The average price charged by Sony Ericsson for a mobile phone has risen from a predicted $US173 to $US207 – helping the company record a profit for the second quarter in a row. The price and profit rise is attributed to the success of its Android-powered X10 and the Vivaz, with the feature-packed smartphones doing more, costing more and adding more to everyone’s bottom lines. You’ve probably seen some reviews of Sony Ericsson’s first Android phone, the Xperia X10, which tries to do something a little different with its custom interface. We’ve got one, but the software didn’t seem fully baked, and Sony Ericsson confirmed to us that when the phone’s actually released in a couple months it’ll be running a later version. So! We’re gonna wait to review the phone you’re actually going to pay money for.
The X10 was Sony Ericsson’s first Android phone and had really decent specs, yet failed to impress us. Dumbing it down and adding a “Mini” and “Mini Pro” tag doesn’t sound too promising. More »
