Nike recently challenged 78 artists to remix and adapt the function of Nike shoes. Nick Marsh, one of the contestants, took a pair of Air Maxes and imported the internals of a Wii Balance Board to turn his shoes into controllers. More »

3:00AM January 18, 2010 | Jack Loftus

Another day, another story about some cheap, plastic Wii motion control accessory finding an application outside of gaming. In this case, it’s the balance board, and not only this device helping stroke victims recover, it’s saving them money, too. More »

Lousy Wii Fit Accessories Already On Their Way

3:30AM March 27, 2008 | Jason Chen

The Wii Fit isn’t actually even available yet officially, but manufacturers like Subsonic have already developed a line of “accessories” to help you get the most out of your Nintendo Wii “exercise” kit. There’s a silicon mat to lay on top of your WF so you don’t slip on all that sweat you’re going to be working up, and a rechargeable battery pack for your board (it’s wireless). Rounding out the pack is a carrying bag and a microfiber spray and dust cleaner for wiping those feet stains off your Fit. Not a bad lot if you’re going to be using the thing daily, but nothing you couldn’t make out of stuff you already have lying around. [Kotaku]

WiiFit Japanese Pricing Announced: $75

4:57PM October 10, 2007 | Jason Chen

This Japanese pricing of 8,800 Yen ($75) for the WiiFit should give you a good idea of how much that Nintendo Wii balance/exercise/yoga board is going to cost in the US. It’s going to go on sale December 1 in Japan, and if Nintendo wants to cash in on any kind of Holiday sales at all, you know they’re going to try and pump it out before December 25 here as well. In comparison, the Wii is 25,000 Yen in Japan ($213) as opposed to the $249 here, so you could probably expect the WiiFit to go for a bit more than $75 when it swims over. Wii Fit: The Parody

6:50AM July 20, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

Sarcastic Gamer, the Ron Livingston-esque voiceover guy that brought us the Microsoft Surface Parody, is at it again. This time he’s taking the piss out of The Wii’s Wii Fit fitness game. We really liked the idea of getting exercise on a white board, but Mr. SarcGam doesn’t agree. After watching his video, we see his point. [Sarcastic Gamer via Crunchgear] More »

Up Close With the Wii Fit

1:08PM July 14, 2007 | Seamus Byrne

newVideoPlayer("MOV00617_gawker.flv", 475, 376);The Brians over at Kotaku got their horribly blistered feet all over the Wii Fit Balance Board and came out with the impression that yes, this is for exercise. After playing it, their legs definitely felt the burn, which reinforces the fact that it’s a “challenging” game made for exercise—instead of being an intuitive game like Wii Tennis where you’re supposed to “get it” right away. Hit up Kotaku to see other videos of them doing Wii Fit ski jump as well. [Kotaku] More »
