I’m in Seoul with LG this weekend, where the temperature is below zero and it’s actually snowing. So rather than playing with particular gadgets (although I do have quite the collection of older gadgets with me for travel entertainment), I’m going to do my best to spend some time checking out the South Korean city’s gadget hub, which I believe is called the Yongsan Electronics Market.
I was supposed to spend this weekend playing with the new TiVo 320, as well as the Olin wireless DS Lite charger. But the weather killed off my TiVo delivery, so instead, I’ll just be charging my DS without wires.
Today is my 30th birthday. And aside from the slight hangover I’ve been battling thanks to celebrating with colleagues and friends last night, it’s been a pretty good day so far. This weekend I’m going to continue the celebration by spending some time with family, but also by enjoying some of my presents, including the entire Battlestar Galactica Collection on Blu-ray, thanks to my awesomely amazing wife.
Last week, while watching an extremely disappointing movie on Blu-ray which won’t be named for fear of inadvertantly promoting it, my receiver switched off on its own, naturally at the film’s climax. At first I thought it had just overheated, but after a bit of playing around, I discovered that one or more of the speaker cables had short circuited. So my weekend will be spent replacing those cables – Joy! Oh, I’ll also be playing with the new HTC Tattoo and HTC Hero Android phones.
This weekend I’ve got Sony Ericsson’s PS3 Remote Play-capable phone, Aino, and the Jawbone Prime to play around with. I’m also battling with the Mac Mini with Snow Leopard Server to see if I can bend it to my will, making it a solid home server option. So far, I’m not doing too well…
It’s slightly quiet on the new gadget front here at Giz today. I’ve still got the impressive Sennheiser PXC 310BT Bluetooth headphones, the Amazon Kindle (complete with a copy of the Kama Sutra), and the Canon 7D to play with, but in terms of new stuff, it’s all about the JVC PICSIO HD pocket camcorder.
In the craziness that was Microsoft’s Windows 7 launch yesterday, I received a little delivery. As I tore open the box marked ‘Amazon’ with excitement, I was trying my best to contain my excitement. As the Kindle appeared, resplendent in its shiny cream plastic and brushed aluminium back, I allowed myself a grin, because I’ve been waiting for this frickin thing for too long.
