HP’s earnings were brutal this past quarter, sure. In response, new CEO Meg Whitman’s clarion call to investors, repeated over and over again? We need to be more clear. We need to let you know what’s going on.
So apparently newish HP CEO Meg Whitman has held an all-hands-on-deck meeting to discuss the fate of webOS, which is exactly the kind of meeting you have when your ship is sinking. The verdict, according to The Verge: uh, give us a few weeks. Perfect.
Contradicting earlier reports from the Guardian, Reuters reported on late Monday that four sources close to the matter have confirmed that webOS is being sought by companies, potentially Oracle, and that HP is weighing the benefits of a potential sale. PC Magazine has further analysis.
HP’s Computer Division has been spared the guillotine, but webOS may not be as lucky. The Guardian is reporting today that HP may soon kill off the OS designed for the short-lived and now-dead TouchPad tablet. Well, that’s a $US1.2 billion investment down the tubes.
This is probably spitting into the wind, but I’ve got to wonder: Why can’t fans of opposing smartphone teams celebrate the remarkable successes everyone’s having?
The HP Touchpad just jumped up a few notches on the tablet scale now that the first public release of CyanogenMod is available for download.
Snagged a HP Touchpad (or seven) during its $98 fire sale in August? Either you’ve come to terms with what webOS offers and its decidedly terminal fate, or, you’ve been hanging out for CyanogenMod to get Android onto the hardware. It looks like CM are getting closer to making this reality, judging by their latest video.
