It was one of the first 3D MMOs for the iPhone, but felt a little underdeveloped. Version 2.0, coinciding with the DVD release, is free if you’ve already got the first one, and comes with eight new episodes, a pile of new characters, a 360-degree battle mode, and new rooftop settings.

But we’ve had confirmation from Paramount that we definitely won’t get to sit back and chat with Snyder during the community screening US owners of the Blu-ray will experience.

Perhaps more disappointing is the fact that the version on sale in Australia on July 30 isn’t actually the Director’s Cut of the film – we only get a 2-Disc special edition, which doesn’t look like it includes the “Maximum Movie Mode” we’ve seen before either.

Despite the fact that this sucks for Watchmen fans, I’d still class the film as a “must-have” Blu-ray purchase when it hits shelves in just under two weeks. And as an added bonus, it’s good to know that the complete motion comic Blu-ray will also hit shelves the same day.

In it, director Zack Snyder uses two screens to visually show various behind-the-scenes snippets while the movie plays.

The setup, which is Snyder standing in front of a couple of screens, allows him to freeze the movie as it plays, show the scene being shot next to the final version and compare scenes to panels from the comic book. It’s the closest we’ve seen to actually having the director with you in your living room walking you through the movie. Great stuff.

In the interest of making Community Screenings a bit more practical (that BD Live function allowing users to watch a film in sync with friends over the network), Warner has teamed with Facebook in a cash-less deal to allow Community Screenings to sync with your Facebook friend lists.

It’s actually a great idea that’s far more progressive than using Warner’s current solution, a proprietary account system.
It seems that the Watchmen film has pretty much cut audiences down the middle – half love the adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ masterpiece, while the other half think it deserves its own special place in hell for crimes against humanity. If you want a universal opinion on a Watchmen adaptation, then check out the fan-made Saturday morning cartoon. Hilarious because it’s fake, but if it was real, you just know that its creator would wind up just like Hollis Mason after the fanboys (and Alan Moore) were through with him…
