VLC 1.1.0 Adds GPU Decoding For Windows And Linux

Hey! Everyone’s favourite video playing software, VLC, jumped to 1.1.0 today and added some GPU decoding for Windows and Linux users as well, giving your CPU a break when you’re trying to play those gigantic HD files you’ve been feverishly torrenting. One caveat: the Windows version only works with nVidia GPUs, as ATI’s drivers aren’t currently don’t play nice. [CrunchGear]

VLC For Mac Might Die, Unless You Save It

The current number of developers for VLC on Mac is right around, um, zero. Not good for an open-source project powered by volunteers! So development on the 64-bit version has been stalled, and if new devs can’t be found, Mac VLC could end with version 1.1.0. Gulp. [MacNN]
