The masterfully-faked Pomegranate Phone is a great riff on the iPhone’s it-does-everything! ads. It’s a pomegranate-based design that includes an electric shaver, coffee brewer, and a harmonica. Brilliant. But what is it actually advertising?
If you’re as excited as us by the upcoming Watchmen movie, you’ll be more than happy to watch the above viral video for the film. It probably won’t make a whole heap of sense to anyone who hasn’t read the graphic novel, but for fans like us, it’s another piece in the excitement puzzle that hits cinemas in 23 days. Not that we’re counting or anything*.

Historically, nerd rap has been attached to the Aesop Rocks, Lupe Fiascos, and Kool Keiths of the world, but with this recent trend of viral-y, tech related hip hop vids (See: Large Hadron Rap), that classification is taking on an entirely new meaning altogether. Case in point, Seagate’s “Computer Friends” video, which pairs a couple of ironically wiggeriffic cubical emcees together with their token black co-worker (for a ghetto pass, presumably) to spit a hot 16 about their beloved computers, and the need for more storage, specifically a 1.5TB HDD. However, I still think your money would be better spent on an SSD.
Yesterday, Joel at BoingBoing Gadgets discovered a very aggressive, um, “fan” of the Motorola Krave trolling their comments for the last couple of weeks. Turns out, he’s a frequent pundit at Giz, CrunchGear and Lifehacker (and everywhere else on the internets) too! Did you know that the Krave matches perfectly with a sports car and an alien mountain shelter? It sucks the power out of the shill to actually say you work for Motorola, though, dude. Now, the entire clip is up and… it’s a Nokia ad! For a Bruce Lee version of their N96! I guess with the rising middle class already getting jaded with traditional marketing, companies in China are starting to embrace virals. Still, in terms of ads, Nokia seems to have hit on a winning formula. I can’t think of many things I love more than Bruce Lee, ping pong and pwnage! [Youku]

I’m not sure if a troupe of minuscule, badly rotoscoped Vegas dancers and an orchestra will send the message home, but whatever works for the people who announced their alleged iPhone-wannabe on the worst day possible is good enough for us.
