We’ve seen numerous announcements of tablet computers in recent weeks, as the R&D labs of the world push out their hastily assembled attempts at competing with Apple’s game-changing iPad. But are any of them up to the job?
Viewsonic’s two tablets shown off at IFA this week couldn’t be more different. One’s a ten-inch behemoth running both Windows 7 Home Premium and Android 1.6, while the other is a stylish, compact 7-inch number running Android 2.2. Guess which one felt like torture to use?
After warning us last week of their impending dual-booting tablet, ViewSonic has now spilled the beans on the ViewPad 100′s specs. I don’t think anyone will be impressed by the Android 1.6 flavour, even if Windows 7′s also there too.
If you thought the Dell Streak was too large to be used as a phone at five inches, get a load of ViewSonic’s ViewPad 7, a 7-inch Android tablet that also doubles up as a phone.
ViewSonic is one of those companies that makes my eyes droop and dribble escape from my mouth, but according to a press release they just issued, they’ll be showing off a 10-inch dual-booting Android/Windows tablet at IFA.
Yes, that’s sub-$1500 local money. ViewSonic’s new PJD6251 (model number as sexy as ever) is a portable 120Hz 3D-ready projector, weighing in at 2.9kg. It isn’t necessarily your number one choice for home theatre extravagance, but for the money this makes for a nice small biz or random fun option.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate Viewsonic’s new Android tablet while we can, before it gets crushed in the tidal wave of coverage that a certain other tablet’s debut will get next week. And it’s got some things worth appreciating!
Here are the first shots of the VPC08 in action. The hardware looks faithful to those renders we saw mid-November, and includes a 4.3-inch touchscreen, 800MHz Atom Z500 CPU, and separate phone controls with a second 2-inch screen.
